Hello everyone!
This has been a pretty good week for our dear Michael. He has new digs in the ICU and I love what he's done with the place. The move was due to an influx of new arrivals from Iraq who risk carrying a bacteria that is found in the Iraqi soil. Mike has been cleared of this bacteria so they don't want to risk getting him infected.
Things are stable but we do have a new development: The CSF reabsorption is still a real issue. It appears that if Mike is not able to start reabsorbing this fluid, a shunt will have to be inserted. This is a permanent measure and apparently quite invasive. Kim needs to get the full details from Mike's neuro, the brilliant Dr. Armonda, but it sounds like it would be another delicate brain surgery. We are specifically praying for this issue to resolve itself.
Yesterday was a fun day with Mike. His stitches from his brain surgery were being removed and at times it got a little tough for the surgeon to "pick and snip". Mike wanted the good doctor to know that he did not approve of the painful process by slowly lifting his left arm and very distinctly displaying his middle finger. He may look asleep but he's nobody's fool!
Hasta the next time!
Jackie
