The long wait

We just left Mike for the night so he can rest before his big day tomorrow. Doctor said surgery will start at approximately 6:30 AM and should go until about midnight. He is running a temp but the nurse assured us they would start running lab work around midnight tonite to check for white blood count amongst other things.

Tomorrow's surgery will involve a bone graft, repair of cranial and facial structures and verification that the titanium mesh that was put in place in Balad is a good and permanent repair.

A few new milestones: Mike's right arm which was unresponsive to date is now responding to pain stimuli (ouch!). We can now visit him without having to don sterile gown, gloves and mask. He is also off of all painkillers (although after tomorrow, that will all change). He also opened his right eye to the nurse today! What a flirt.

I will report back to you tomorrow, as soon as I have something to tell you. Thanks again for all your kind words, thoughtful notes and offers of all kinds. Kim is so grateful for all your support.

We do ask that you send all your prayers, good vibes, good juju, good mojo, good luck, good will...you get the picture. May the surgeons be well rested and may the Lord guide them through this arduous task. Finally, may Mike stay strong and endure this event with flying colors.

Talk to you soon!
